Battery and Illumination

With a red dot sight, most shooters should focus on the target and superimpose the dot over the intended point of aim. This allows for faster target acquisition and better situational awareness.

A red dot may appear blurry because the brightness is too high, the lens is dirty, the dot is being viewed incorrectly, or the shooter has astigmatism. Try lowering the brightness, cleaning the lens, and viewing the dot with both eyes open while focusing on the target.

First, check that the battery is fresh and installed in the correct direction. Then make sure the battery cap or tray is fully seated, the battery contacts are clean, and the optic is not in a locked or low-brightness setting. If the optic still does not turn on, contact Meprolight® support.

Tritium illumination gradually dims over time. Meprolight® tritium products are designed for long-term low-light use, and specific warranty coverage depends on the product model. Meprolight® warranties the tritium in MEPRO HYPER-BRIGHT™, MEPRO TRU-DOT®, and MEPRO CRIS sights for 12 years, and the tritium in the MEPRO M21, MEPRO M22, and MEPRO M22 PRO for 10 years.

No. Tritium sights do not need batteries. They are self-illuminated and designed to provide a visible aiming reference in low-light conditions.

Fiber optic illumination gathers available ambient light to help illuminate the aiming point during daylight or brighter conditions. In Meprolight® self-illuminated optics, fiber optic illumination supports daytime use while tritium supports low-light use.

Magnifier

In many pistol optic installations, a small amount of appropriate threadlocker may be used, but users should follow the firearm, optic, and mounting plate instructions. Overuse of threadlocker can cause problems during future removal. Allow the threadlocker to cure for 24 hours before firing the firearm.

Use the screws specified for the firearm, optic, and mounting plate. Screw length matters. Screws that are too long or too short can cause mounting problems, damage, or unreliable retention.

To range a target with an MRAD reticle, estimate or know the target’s size, measure how many mils it covers in the reticle, and use that information to estimate distance. The basic formula is:

Distance in meters = target size in meters × 1,000 ÷ measured mils

For example, if a 1-meter-tall target measures 2 mils in the reticle, the estimated distance is 500 meters. Accurate ranging depends on knowing the target size and reading the reticle carefully.
